Blackbriar - Eerie Gothic Music
I discovered this band purely by chance and instantly liked their music.
From the Netherlands, the 6-member band is made up of Zora Cock on vocals, Ruben Wijga on keyboards, Bart Winters and Robin Koezen on guitar, Frank Akkerman on bass and René Boxem on drums.
Blackbriar is an independent band and has, so far, released 3 Eps. They are working on their first full-length album, made possible purely through the support of their fans, which I think is just fantastic.
Their music is the melodic equivalent of dark, gothic fairy tales, which is delicious for someone who loves fairy tales and the gothic.
Zora’s voice is haunting and otherworldly, which suits the band’s themes perfectly.
While I enjoy their full renditions, it’s their live acoustic performances I tend to listen to the most; these really highlight the spooky quality of Zora’s vocals.
It’s not easy choosing which pieces to include in this post…
‘Arms of the Ocean’ is about the irresistible singing of the sirens; ‘Cry of a Banshee’ is about… a banshee and I’ve picked the acoustic version.
Enjoy.
