This is another design I came up with, using postcard imagesfrom Karen Arnold on ‘Public Domain Pictures’.

The cover is made using thick cardboard, and measures 14cm x 18.5cm.

This is the first time I’ve used the method, which involves cutting 3 separate pieces – one each for the front and back covers and another piece for the spine.

Leaving a very narrow gap between each piece – I don’t measure, just eyeball it, which is a bit of a challenge for me as I’m rubbish at gauging distances! – I joined them together using Tyvek tape.

Although I like the look of the cardboard I use, I can’t leave it uncovered because the tape backing is white.

So, I cover the whole of the front with craft paper.

To ‘break’ it up a bit, I covered the spine with a piece of patterned paper, and I’ve attached the ribbon closure to the spine, so it doesn’t disappear when untied.

I’ve glued Malaysian stamps to these fold-out bits.

Like my previous journals, this one is made up of 2 signatures, each with 56 pages front and back, making a total of 112 pages.

Included are plain and decorated journal cards, notecards, and tags.

Because I like the image I used for the centre page, I didn’t sew in an envelope for the large journal cards.

It was only after I’d finished sewing the signatures in, did I realise I didn’t have anywhere for those large cards. Oops!

So, I part-glued a page to the inside back cover and cut a slit along the middle for the cards. Ideas like that don’t come along often, and when they do, something usually gets lost in translation.

Colour me ever so pleased that it worked out as I’d envisaged it.
