Horses, Wild and Free - And On It Goes...

With roundup season about to start again, targeting America’s wild horses, I’ve realised there’s too much going on for me to write effectively about any one topic. Believe me, I tried to narrow it down but it’s too overwhelming.

Instead, I’m going to link to a few articles written by those more experienced and knowledgeable than me.

I want to start with this from Skydog Ranch. Granted, I’m late posting about it, but I still want to highlight how something beautiful – a mare, Elsa, and her twin foals – plus a plan which makes so much sense can be scuppered for no reason at all.

The next 2 are from Wild Horse Education:
In ‘Spaying, Slaughter and Subterfuge’, the points made halfway down the article are eye-opening indeed, making it clear who exactly benefits from the spaying and slaughter of wild horses. No prizes for guessing it’s not the wild horses.

The article, ‘Roundup Season Begins’ states that this heartless practice begins in July and continues through to February the following year. 2 areas, both in Nevada, slated for helicopter roundups have already been subjected to roundups, one in 2018 and the other in February 2019. Apparently, the BLM didn’t capture the total number of wild horses they’d originally set out to, so they’re returning to finish the job.

As if chasing wild horses with helicopters, terrifying them, causing them to run and run, isn’t bad enough, ‘roundups in July happen as babies are being born, in some of the hottest weather. Babies just months, weeks, days and hours old, will be stampeded with their families.’

The unnecessary cruelty leaves me speechless, heartbroken, frustrated and so, so angry.
