Favourites on Friday - Birthday Week
It was my uncle's birthday on the 14th, then my dad's birthday on the 15th, and Gordon’s on the 16th. My baby is no longer a teenager, he’s now 20!
He took the day off work yesterday, so Liam and I got to spend his day with him. We had a quiet day at home, so he could wallow in his presents, which included Lego – colour me oh-so-surprised! In the evening, we went out for a meal, stuffed ourselves and had a good time.
Can’t remember what I have or haven’t said about Gordon lately … Even though he’d done 2 years studying Animal Care, the job market is such that he could find nothing. He was applying for all kinds of entry-level jobs, and coming up empty. After discussing options with his youth advisor, he decided to give horticulture a go, and volunteered at a community allotment. Last September, he completed a Prince’s Trust course, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Found out about an apprenticeship in horticulture, applied and started with Bournemouth Parks in February. It’s a 2year apprenticeship, and he does 1 day at college – Kingston Maurward where he was for 2 years doing Animal Care … can’t get away from the place.
His hours are 07:30 to 15:30, and he’s ever so good with getting up – much better than his mother. Gets himself sorted, pops on his headphones, and heads off to work, which is a 20-minute walk. He likes the variety of jobs that he does, and gets on well with his work colleagues.
I am proud of him, and so happy that he’s landed on his feet. Though I think it’s going to take me a long while to ‘see’ him as a young man in his 20s … he is still such a kid at heart :)
